Note from Nicole

This coming Sunday…

Dear St. Andrew Community,

I remember watching an episode of the television show Mad Men, whose fictional time was set in the 1960’s. In this particular scene, a couple had finished their picnic at a local park. When they finished, they shook off their blanket which held containers and wrappings. They then walked away and left it all on the grass for someone else to clean up.

I’m old enough to remember those days. I also remember Woodsy the Owl, who in 1971 first said, “Give a Hoot and Don’t Pollute.” We’ve come a long way since then, and yet have new challenges when it comes to caring for the earth. In Genesis, God calls on human beings to have “dominion over” God’s creation. But does dominion mean exploiting creation or caring for God’s creation as stewards of the earth, sea and sky? Does dominion mean we have superiority over or responsibility for?

God created human beings in God’s image. I understand God and Christ as self giving and other affirming. I don’t imagine that God meant we’re supposed to exploit creation for self serving purposes at the expense of others, but rather assume greater responsibility in caring for all of God’s creation, as God does.

As we gather this Sunday, we will worship God the Creator, heighten our appreciation for the beauty of this earth, and examine what we can all do to become better stewards of God’s holy creation.

Yours in Christ,

Nicole

GETTING ACQUAINTED:

For the next few months – each Thursday from 2-4 and Sunday from 12-2, Reverend Nicole Trotter will make herself available for a conversation so that we can get to know one another. This can be by phone, Facetime, Zoom, or an outdoor visit at the church, in a yard or at the square. You may like just 15 minutes or perhaps an hour. Please contact Amy in the church office at [email protected] to set up a time and let her know your preferred method of contact; Phone, church, etc.? If neither of these times work for you, please feel free to reach out to Nicole directly to set something up.

GET READY FOR THE VERY BEST SUMMER

Something remarkable can happen when a child starts learning to see themselves the way God sees them. To us, that’s real confidence. This summer, St. Andrew is planning a VBS that encourages every child to know that because of Jesus, they can have confidence because . . .
They are known.
They belong.
They are forgiven.
They can change.
They can make a difference.

“ENDING WELL WORKSHOP” INVITATION

The Presbytery of the Redwoods invites the Congregation of St. Andrew to attend this informative workshop:

ROADMAP OR SCAVENGER HUNT? The complimentary Ending Well Workshop Series (Zoom) gives you direction in how to provide the roadmap your children and executor/trustee will need to fulfill their responsibilities someday when you pass away.

You’re giving your family a gift when, instead of a scavenger hunt to find everything, you’ve gathered all the necessary paperwork in one safe place, made decisions about burial or possessions, found the best way to provide passwords they need in order to access your online accounts, and so much more. In other words, it’s not simply having a Will or Living Trust. Classes are 1-hour weekly for 5 weeks. Contact Janet Logan for additional info or to register. You can reach her at [email protected]
