GREETINGS!

"Greetings from the St. Andrew sanctuary.  My name is Nicole, and I’m the Pastor here at St. Andrew.  Welcome, I’m so glad that you found us, there are so many reasons that people come looking for a church.  Sometimes for comfort, sometimes for connection, the reasons are many; but we’re just glad that you’re here because we will see your presence in the sanctuary as a gift to all of us..."

Lent and Holy Week

Lenten Series at St. Andrew

Wandering Heart...

Our lives with God are never a linear upward trajectory of growth. One year, one day, one minute, our heart is in the right place, feeling aligned with a listening heart, allowing God to guide us and feeling the comfort of Jesus who walks with us. Then the next year, day, minute, we wander away. Wandering is just a part of who we are. Faith is not lived perfectly.

Wandering is just a part of who we are. Faith is not lived perfectly. During Lent we talk about repentance, which in Greek connotes a change of heart, and in Hebrew, a turning around, a re-turn, a return to God. Not unlike Peter who we will follow this season, we wander and return, and wander again, changed forever by the grace of God who desires all of us, even as we wander.

A Lenten Prayer Time

10:30am Each Tuesday of Lent

February 13, 20, 27, March 12, 19, and 26 (no gathering March 5)

A Lectio Devina Prayer time will be offered during Lent on Tuesday mornings at 10:30am in the Conference Room. Lectio Devina (“divine reading”) is an ancient contemplative practice that we will be using to listen with our hearts to Sunday’s scripture passage. It will hopefully help us discover new intimacy with God and bring more depth to our experience of Sunday’s sermon. If you have questions please contact Debbie Sweek.

Taizé Prayer Around the Cross

6:30pm Each Tuesday of Lent

February 20, 27, March 5, 12, 19, and 26

During the Season of Lent, join us for Prayer Around the Cross in the style of the Taizé Community.

Each Tuesday evening during the Season of Lent — John Griffin and Jeff Gaines will lead a simple candlelight service of Taizé Prayer Around the Cross.

What is Taizé?

The Taizé community is an international ecumenical Christian community located next to the small village of Taizé outside Cluny in the Burgundy region of France. Founded in 1940 by Br. Roger, who brought together brothers from all over the world, the community has long been committed to promoting and praying for reconciliation, peace, and unity. Each week it welcomes up to 8000 people, mostly young adults, from around the globe. They spend time in prayer, song, Bible study, workshops, discussion, and fellowship.

Unique to the Taizé community is their style of prayer. One aspect of Taizé prayer is the music, which is sung through simple prayer-chants. By singing together simple chants that are short, easy to learn, and repeated many times, those worshipping in the style of Taizé are able to let go with their mind, settle into their hearts, allowing themselves to listen for the Voice of the Holy One.

Jeff Gaines and John Griffin, both retired clergy and regular attenders and friends of St. Andrew, have years of experience leading Taizé services with their congregations in the US and abroad in pilgrimages and retreats.

Holy Week at St. Andrew

As we prepare for Easter, St. Andrew Presbyterian Church will be hosting several services during Holy Week.

March 28

Maundy Thursday Service

5:30pm

Join us in The Fellowship Hall for an evening of fellowship as we eat together, pray together, listen to scripture, serve one another communion around the table and wash one another’s hands. This is an intergenerational worship and children are welcome to participate.

March 29

Good Friday Worship Service

7:00pm

A worship service of music, scripture, silence including a “tenebrae” experience as light fades into darkness. The word “tenebrae” means “darkness” or “shadows,” dating back to a 4th century Holy Week observance in which the lights in the church are extinguished one by one as the service proceeds. The scripture readings begin with Last Supper and follow Jesus through the Garden of Gethsemane to his arrest, trial, and death on the cross.

March 31

Easter Sunday Worship Service

6:15 am and 9:00 am

6:15am - Outdoor Easter Sunrise Service

One of the worship highlights of the year! Join the Jr. and Sr. High Youth Groups as they lead us in an outdoor service celebrating the Risen Son! This service will include music, scripture and reflection. DRESS VERY WARMLY and join us on the South Patio.

9:00am - Traditional Worship in Our Sanctuary
