Theological Differences

“This past summer a network of relationships exploded over theological differences. Words were said–emails sent which angered and hurt me deeply. I resisted, for once, the overwhelming temptation to strike back, arguing my position as to why I was right and they were wrong. I sat silent until yesterday, when I sensed a nudge from the Spirit to send an email expressing my sadness for the situation, and prayers for the people I had counted as friends. I expressed the hope that God was not done with any of us and somehow God’s good work would continue in us. (Philippians 1:3-6) I received a reply. We still don’t agree and may never agree to work together again. But God’s grace is present and that’s all that really matters. I don’t always live in this place of trusting God and doing my part to promote reconciliation when the time is right. But it’s a space of serenity I want to be in more often.”
