Advent is a Time of Waiting

Advent is a time of waiting. I hate waiting. I can even get impatient with next-day delivery. Yet wait I must, but it is the waiting and just out of sight is the time and place where God is at work in me. Gerald May says we must be willing to endure dark periods of feeling that God isn’t here, that nothing is happening, that God has given up on you. He makes it very clear that if God wants to work in you, God has to do it secretly, in darkness. God can’t let you know what’s going on, because you’re likely to get in the way! How true that is in my life. Any experience of that in yours?
