Note from Nicole
This coming Sunday…
Dear St. Andrew Community,
Context is everything, and so let me start with where I am sitting as I write this weekly email to you. I’m sitting in a cafe at UCSF. My almost 25 year old son is about to get knee surgery. It’s not our first rodeo. He had his first surgery on the same knee at age 15. There’s nothing like a surgery to wake me up to the deep gratitude I carry for his life and the honor of being my children’s mother.
That gratitude also leads to compassion as my heart drifts into profound sadness for my friends who have lost children, friends who have never been able to have a child, friends who are estranged from their children or their parents.
And that’s why the Worship Committee at St. Andrew decided that this Sunday, instead of honoring the secular holiday of Mother’s Day, which can be a painful day for some, it would be more powerful to explore the love of God as given to us through the divine feminine. That’s a big topic and I’m not yet sure which direction God and scripture (John 15:9-17) will take us… so let me just say this for now, from a cafe surrounded by strangers – there are those in our life that qualify as our mothers, not through birth, but because of their hearts. They’re the ones we call when we’re in pain and in need comfort, because whether female or male, they’re strong enough to hold our tears, carry our sorrow, anger, confusion and every other emotion known to God, and love us through. They are the ones in whom we can abide as Jesus calls on us to do, as we abide in his love. (vs 9, 10)
Yours in Christ,
For the next few months – each Thursday from 2-4 and Sunday from 12-2, Reverend Nicole Trotter will make herself available for a conversation so that we can get to know one another. This can be by phone, Facetime, Zoom, or an outdoor visit at the church, in a yard or at the square. You may like just 15 minutes or perhaps an hour. Please contact Amy in the church office at [email protected] to set up a time and let her know your preferred method of contact; Phone, church, etc.? If neither of these times work for you, please feel free to reach out to Nicole directly to set something up.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL AT ST. ANDREW
PRESS PLAY: GET IN THE MIX
$50.00 per child for the week
GET READY FOR THE
VERY BEST SUMMER!
We’re turning up the volume at VBS to remind each kid that they can have confidence because of Jesus. When kids begin to see themselves the same way that Jesus sees them, then real confidence begins to take root and grow. We’ll be spending a fun, memorable week teaching kids these foundational Truths to begin understanding the base of their confidence.
Something remarkable can happen when a child starts learning to see themselves the way God sees them. To us, that’s real confidence. This summer, St. Andrew is planning a VBS that encourages every child to know that because of Jesus, they can have confidence because . . .
They are known.
They are forgiven.
They can change.
They can make a difference.
SUPPORT YOUNG LIFE
Sonoma’s local Young Life club has announced that they are going to camp in Santa Cruz this summer, taking 10 youths and 2 leaders. This camp is geared to kids already centered in faith and not really an outreach camp like Woodleaf. YL could use funding for the youth to offset the cost, they are looking for $2400 to help sponsor the 10 kids, and the cost is $550/kid.
The Mission committee has voted to match up to $1200 towards the camper’s sponsorship! If you feel inspired and want to help these youth solidify their faith please consider giving to Young Life. Mark your checks to the church with “Young Life” in the memo section, or follow this link to give electronically.
TOUCH PHONES NEEDS YOUR HELP!
JOIN THE TOUCHPHONES TEAM OF VOLUNTEERS!
Our Touchphone Ministry is looking for a few additional volunteers to make calls to our Congregation on a monthly basis. This is an important ministry that keeps us connected with all of our church families. If you’d like more information or to volunteer your time once a month to make a few phone calls, please email Kitty Brenek via the church office at [email protected]. Our volunteers report that they get more then they give when making these calls!
Please continue your giving during this time, so that St. Andrew may continue to serve our local community and our membership. We recognize that some of you have been impacted financially by economic repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic. For those of you who can, please continue to give on a regular basis.
There are several options available:
- Give electronically to the St. Andrew General Fund
- Set up your donation to St. Andrew to be paid through your bill paying service at your personal bank.
- Mail a check to St. Andrew, or drop your envelope into our locked mail box: 16290 Arnold Drive, Sonoma, CA 95476
