There’s a picture on the wall that brings me comfort
My weary eyes rest on it from time to time
Its a sweet unique depiction of the Savior
The only one I know one I know quite of its kind
Refrain:
It shows Him laughin, our Lord is laughin
His head thrown back with joy upon His loving face
And for a moment there something happens
I feel at peace just seein Jesus laughin
To the left and just above the picture
There sits a wooden cross upon the shelf
Sometimes it seems just like the Lord is gazin
Straight into the face of death itself
In my heart I hold a gentle vision
And one day when I reach the other side
He’ll hold me in His arms and whisper welcome
And as I look into His smiling eye
Dear Friends,
During this week before Holy Week, we anticipate Jesus’ death. This sweet country song performed by young girls adds to the poignancy of this week and our situation in current time. Jesus laughing in the face of adversity.
This virus is no joking matter, not even on April Fool’s Day. Not a time for Covid-related pranks, for sure. But there is plenty of humor in my household and between friends. I hope you can find the opportunity to smile and laugh.
Even in the darkest, most trying and difficult moments, we can escape in humor and welcome the release in laughter. Here’s an article from the Mayo Clinic that reminds us that laughter is the best medicine. https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/stress-management/in-depth/stress-relief/art-20044456
Laughter is healing and gives us a moment to bond with the person we laugh with. And if humor doesn’t find you, track it down. Find a silly movie you can enjoy – maybe something you ordinarily wouldn’t watch. Or YouTube has tons of old sitcoms. Have you seen I Love Lucy recently? OMG.
To keep you company, you may have heard about this Spotify playlist brought together by singer Rita Wilson: “Quarantunes.” She and husband Tom Hanks caught the virus in Australia, and she compiled this song list to keep herself upbeat. Just the song titles make you smile in our current context. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6vujSBdZOmLlDZc627sW1A
All By Myself – Celine Deon
So Far Away – Carole King
Happy Together – The Turtles
I Think We’re Alone Now – Tommy James and the Shondells
You get the picture. Great tunes. So fun. Think about cranking these up to make your day brighter!
If you find something funny, allow yourself to smile and laugh. Embrace joy.
Much love to you all,
Jan
