St. Andrew Lenten Series 2/17-3/28

Gifts of the Dark Wood

“There’s a path… though it winds its way through darkness
We would choose … to avoid it if we could
We awake… to an unexpected calling
God says, “come… there are gifts in the Dark Wood”

This series, based on the book by the same name by Eric Elnes, is about “seeing life through new” eyes, recognizing that experiences of failure, emptiness, and uncertainty are as critical for finding our way through life as they are unavoidable.” We will see how experiences of life through the “dark wood” are actually clues to our “calling” or “life path.” How can the struggles of life be the seedbed of spiritual awakening to the fullness of life?

An Ash Wednesday Invitation
Outdoor Reflection and Prayer

Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent, a season of reflection and inventory as we remember from where we’ve come and where we are headed. “We are dust and to dust we shall return, but in the meantime our bodies are sources of deep revelation for us. They are how we come to know both great pain and great pleasure. They help us to recognize ourselves in one another. They are how God gets to us, at the most intimate and universal level of all.” (Barbara Brown Taylor, Christian Century, 2002)

You’re invited to sign up for a 20-minute outdoor visit between the hours of 10am-1pm or 4pm-7pm on the St. Andrew back patio for a time of reflection and prayer. Individual ash containers will be available for self administering ashes.

Once you arrive, you will be directed to walk through the open Narthex to your seat in front of the outdoor cross. For your reflection, there will be pre-recorded songs, scripture and prayer played while you sit. You will be given your own packet of ashes to self administer after the prayer before exiting.

Follow this link to schedule your visit.

If you are not able to leave your home or travel to the church and would like to receive a packet of ashes, please email the church office and we will arrange for them to be delivered.

All outdoor Covid protocols will be monitored and followed.

GETTING ACQUAINTED:

For the next few months – each Thursday from 2-4 and Sunday from 12-2, Reverend Nicole Trotter will make herself available for a conversation so that we can get to know one another. This can be by phone, Facetime, Zoom, or an outdoor visit at the church, in a yard or at the square. You may like just 15 minutes or perhaps an hour. Please contact Amy in the church office at [email protected] to set up a time and let her know your preferred method of contact; Phone, church, etc.? If neither of these times work for you, please feel free to reach out to Nicole directly to set something up.
