This program is a small first step in the battle against hunger. We join other congregations who invite every member – of all ages – to contribute a few cents at every meal. This simple act is an expression of thanks for what we have received. It is also a commitment to share with others in response to Jesus’ command “You give them something to eat.” We bring what we’ve contributed to Cents-Ability quarterly and see what God does with small donations that really add up when we are all pitching in a little bit every day.
These small acts of faithfulness can really add up: One hundred persons in a congregation will contribute $180 a month at two cents a meal. That’s $2,160 a year. If all of us at St. Andrew participate, multiply that by a factor of four. That’s over $8,000 a year!
The money we collect is used to combat hunger by supporting efforts here in our Sonoma Valley, to alleviate national hunger programs, and international efforts. Your Mission Task Force administers the funds and provide updates on how much we’ve collected and how the funds were invested.
This is something special that reminds us at every meal how blessed we are to not only have our daily bread, but to share what we have so someone else has their daily bread in Jesus’ name.
Pick up your Cents-Ability can at St. Andrew this Sunday!
- Take the can home
- Collect your loose coins at each meal
- Bring the can back to St. Andrew and pour the coins into the collection jug in the Narthex
- Repeat the process all over again.
