Hospitality

Hospitality means making people feel welcome and comfortable at St. Andrew. Often this has something to do with food! You are welcome to join the hospitality team in any of the following areas:

Worship Greeters

Greeters create a warm and welcoming atmosphere when people enter the doors of St. Andrew on Sunday mornings by providing a smile, bulletin, and answers to questions people might have.

Greeters work in pairs and take turns with greeter teams so that every service is provided the best welcome we can provide.

  • Arrive at least thirty minutes before the start of the service.
  • Check the sanctuary for trash and anything else which might hinder someone’s worship experience.
  • Make sure bulletins are in order and ready to present.
  • Light communion table candles (extinguish them after the second service.)
  • Greet and welcome people until the congregational prayer time. This insures that latecomers receive a hearty welcome as well. Often these are people who are stressed and could use a word of encouragement. No matter when they arrive, we’re glad they came.

Sunday Morning Coffee

The goal is to create teams who prepare the morning coffee fellowship after each service. The purpose of the coffee fellowship is to promote relationships as people stand around sipping coffee and talking.

The job involves:

  • Arriving at least thirty minutes prior to the service to brew the coffee and set up the serving tables, sugar and cream, napkins, etc.
  • Monitor the coffee pots and brew new pots of java as needed.
  • Following the second service, the kitchen and coffee pots need to be cleaned and garbage deposited in the garbage cans.
  • Coordinate purchase of supplies with Cathy Collier.

Sunday School Snack Coordinator

We want to provide the children in Sunday School with a healthy snack the first Sunday of every month. The Sunday School Snack Coordinator will work with Tracy and the Sunday School teachers to…

  • Develop a list of recommended snacks and recipes.
  • Contact parents and other members/friends of St. Andrew to bring recommended snacks the first Sunday of every month.
  • Distribute the snacks to each classroom and clean up the kitchen.

Wiggle Worms

Our children are our future church and it’s not always easy for our little ones to sit still waiting for the children’s sermon to begin. We provide clipboards with bible-based coloring sheets and crayons each Sunday morning. These clipboards are at the entrance of the sanctuary in big baskets, which sit on the floor.

We are looking for someone who would be able to come ten minutes early each Sunday morning (of if there are several people volunteering, you may only be needed once a month) to clip new coloring sheets to the clipboards and replace the crayons when needed.

This works especially well for those who are choir members, handbell ringers, or those who attend a bible study on Wednesday evenings. You could come 10 minutes early (or stay 10 minutes after) to complete your task.

All the materials are provided.

Kitchen Angels

The kitchen is one of the hubs of St. Andrew. Coffee service is provided Sunday morning…fellowship dinners take shape in the kitchen. When small groups meet at church, very often food is involved. That’s the challenge—the kitchen gets used almost every day and because of that it needs regular clean-ups and organization. The kitchen is shared by many and things don’t always find their way back to their intended place, nor do they always arrive in their intended place absolutely clean. The purpose of the Kitchen Angels is to regularly tidy up and scrub down the kitchen, including the stove and refrigerator, so that everything clean to the eye and sanitary to use. This one of those jobs nobody notices unless it isn’t done and then the ants start marching.

  • An orientation to the kitchen will be provided along with where to find cleaning supplies.
  • The goal will be for kitchen angels to take turns cleaning so that they are on duty every other month, or maybe even once a quarter.

St. Andrew Family Connections

As the St. Andrew family grows, the challenge of staying connected with other also grows. The St. Andrew Family Connections Team would develop ways of connecting us and promoting a sense of family.

The possibilities include:

  • Creating our own family photo directory with albums available in the office, Narthex, and for members to check out (with a deposit to ensure its return:).
  • Enhance the first Sunday of the month name-tag experience.
  • Suggest ways that other groups (Alpha, Discipleship, etc.) can promote the sense of family among the members and friends of St. Andrew.
  • Work with other teams to create interesting displays in the narthex which highlight members and friends in mission both inside the walls of St. Andrew and in the community.
