Day 1: Oct. 11th, 2004

We arrived at the El Salvador International Airport at about 7:30 AM. Michael Irvine met us with a bus to take us to Agape which was a 2 hour drive. We had lunch and than a siesta. We then toured the Agape Hospital and Clinics. They have ward of 32 infants and babies that are being treated for malnutrition. The ward was spotless, the children happy and were eating well.

Then our bus took us to Buenos Aires. We thought we could ford the stream but we couldn’t, so trotted up the hill to the current building site where the slab has been poured. Then we trudged further up the hill to see the school that was built last trip. The children who were still in class greeted us with a rousing “buenos tardes”. Later, after they were dismissed, they were given some Jelly Belly beans from Dennis. (Dennis is on the left side of the photo below, can you find him?).

Then we went to the Mayor Antonio’s house for a pupusa party. The ladies prepared a fabulous meal with cheese and bean stuffed pupusas, cabbage topping and hot sauce. The evening concluded with celebrating Kitty Klingberg’s birthday. She had to bring down a piñata. The kids really scrambled for the candy.
